Ceramic Braces

The days of clunky metal brace designs are (thankfully!) far behind us.

It’s true that metal braces still exist today and employ the same effective mechanics as they did in the past, however, they are much more cosmetically appealing and comfortable. Ceramic braces are used for moderate to more serious ailments and apply gentle, continuous pressure over a period of 6-24 months. The small ceramic brackets (small squares attached to each tooth, helping them to move) make them seamlessly blend in with your teeth, so your smile looks great during the treatment period.

Ceramic braces: the benefits

• Ceramic braces marry together the highly effective mechanics of traditional metal braces, with a discreet design that keeps your smile looking good during the treatment period.
• As the brace hardware (the wires and brackets of your brace) are smaller, the brace is more comfortable than past designs.
• They can be used in complex cases.
• The elastic bands used are white or clear and will be changed regularly so they don’t get stained.

What to expect from treatment

Once we have discussed what’s involved, we can start by taking 3D scans of your teeth, so your ceramic brace can be created to match your smile. A recent development in ceramic brace technology is the introduction of tooth-coloured wires; these are made to match your exact tooth shade, whilst the ceramic brackets mimic the appearance of tooth enamel. We will invite you back to the practice to have the brace fitted and ask that you visit us for follow-up appointments to have your brace tightened and your progress monitored. You’ll then be well on your way to a healthier-looking smile.
